Annual sports meet 2023-24

Surana Ind. PU College had organized Annual sports meet 2023-24 on 24- August 2023 at Jayanagar National College Ground, inviting all the PUC students to participate with full of energetic interest. The event continuously laid the emphasis of sports in a student’s physical and mental development. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm and memories to cherish. The sports meet 2023 was filled with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere

  1. The Annual sports meet of Surana Ind. PU College was held on Saturday 27th August 2022, with great passion and enthusiasm. All the students and the faculty took part in the events with steep determination and interest.
  2. Surana Boys Volleyball Team has participated and won First place in the Inter Collegiate Volleyball Tournament ADITYA SPORTS FEST 2022 Organized by Aditya Institute of Management Studies and Research, Bangalore on 16th of August 2022.
  3. Surana Ind. Pre-university Boys Volleyball Team has won First place in the Bangalore South District Level Volleyball Championship which was organized by Acharya Patashala, Basavangudi on 13th and 14th September 2022 and Rakshith V (II SEBA), Namith M N (II BASM) ,T K Vadiraj (II HEPPY), Nesar Y Gowda (II HEBA) , Darshan D (II BASM) , Raghav R Navale (II BASM) have participated in the State level Volleyball Championship 2022-23 organised by Udupi District in association with Department of Pre-University, Udupi on 8th and 9th December 2022.
  4. Surana Ind. Pre-university Boys Hockey Team has won Second place in the Bangalore South District Level Hockey Championship, which was organized by Surana College, Bangalore on 7th October 2022.
  5. Pavana N (II SEBA) secured Gold medal in Heptathlon and High Jump respectively at the State junior and senior athletics championship 2022 held at Sri Kanteerava Stadium, Bangalore from 26th to 28th August 2022.
  • secured Gold medal in High Jump at 17th National Youth Athletics Championship 2022 held at Bhopal.
  • Secured Silver Medal in the 2nd National Open U23 Athletics Championships 2022 held at Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh from 29th to 31st October 2022.
  • secured 2 Gold Medals in the State level Athletic Championship 2022-23 organized by Mangalore District in association with Department of Pre-University, Mangalore from 17th to 19th December 2022.
  1. Kushal Gowda (II Heppy) has represented INDIA in the FIBA U16 ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2022 held at Doha, Qatar from 12th to 19th June 2022.
  2. Venkatesh S of I SEBA has participated And Won First place in Body Twisting event, won Third place in common event in the 16th Yoga Pradharshan-South India-2022 Organized by Kairali Yoga Vidya Peetam, Tiruvallur District, Tamilnadu on 14th August 2022.
  3. Koushik Das of I Heppy has participated and won First place in WAKO India National Seniors And Masters Kickboxing Championship 2022 held at Chennai from 18th to 22nd
  4. Reddy Kiran, Sunil P B, Pilla Akash, Pavan D, Dhruva K R, have won Gold Medal in the State level Hockey Championship 2022-23 organised by Kalburgi District in association with Department of Pre-University, Kalburgi from 17th to 19th November 2022.
  5. Nikhil Raj of (II Science) has participated in the State level Wrestling Competition 2022 organized by Department of Pre-University.
  6. Mohan Kumar (II Science) has participated in the State level Athletic Championship 2022-23 organized by Mangalore District in association with Department of Pre-University, Mangalore from 17th to 19th December 2022.

SCI-LAND

The Department of Science organized an Inter-class competition featuring Chart Presentation, Collage Making, SCI-LAND (Rangoli), Cooking Without Fire, F1 Physics Race, Chemistry Elements of Success, and Biology Word Chain on 18/11/2023. Students showcased their talent and creativity, enhancing skills and knowledge in various disciplines with great enthusiasm.

Gita Jayanthi

The Hindu Panchanga marks Gita Jayanti on Shukla Ekadashi of Margashirsha, also known as Moksha Ekadashi, commemorating Lord Krishna’s discourse to Arjuna at Kurukshetra. Surana Ind. PU College’s Sanskrit Department organized Gita Jayanti on December 29, 2023, with Dr. Geeta R, HOD of Sanskrit Dept, BMS College, as chief guest. Dr. Geeta emphasized the Gita’s teachings on duty and resilience, stressing its relevance in contemporary society. She urged attendees to embrace its principles for a holistic life and societal development. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students across various disciplines, reflecting their keen interest.

Decline of Indus Valley Civilization & Coming of Aryans

During the 2023-24 academic year, the Department of History engaged students through a diverse range of activities, including lectures on significant historical periods, discussions on architectural achievements, and interactive presentations on topics like the Indus Valley Civilization and the origins of Buddhism. Practical demonstrations on excavation and epigraphy, along with competitions such as Treasure Hunts and Quizzes, enriched the learning experience. Additionally, II PUC students participated in an educational visit to Nanya Darshini in Bangalore on July 8, 2023, demonstrating their enthusiasm for the department’s offerings. These initiatives have significantly enhanced the academic environment, fostering a deeper understanding of history among students.

Hindi Divas

Department of Hindi celebrated Hindi divas on 18/11/2023 to promote and celebrate the cultural heritage of Hindi –the official language of India. The main significance of celebrating Hindi Diwas was to highlight the importance of Hindi as a language of communication, and as a repository for the country’s extensive literary and cultural history. In the occasion Dr. Pushpa. K, Dept of Hindi, Jnana Bharati Bangalore was the guest speaker and also on this occasion conducted a Quiz competition. Hindi department competitions like poster making-theme ‘madhya kaalin kavi aur unki rachnaye’ and as well as pick and speak was conducted on 22/11/2023. All the students participated with great zeal with enthusiasm, showing their skills, creativity & knowledge and made the events a grand success.

Debugging and Crossword Puzzle

Computer Science Department conducted their department activities on Debugging and crossword puzzle on 15/11/2023. The Debugging competition was organized to encourage problem solving, algorithmic thinking and improve program debugging/error solving skills of students. Department also conducted crossword puzzle to develop their vocabulary, stimulate thinking capacity, boost confidence, and fasten up the learning capacity. The competition was an enriching experience for all the participants.

Inter-Class Chart and Model Making Competition

To provide an opportunity to the students to showcase their talent and creativity, an Inter-class chart and model making competition was organized by the Statistics Department on 15/11/2023. Students participated in this competition with great enthusiasm. In this one hour long competition, the students tried to prove their talent in the best possible way and enhanced their art, skills, creativity and knowledge on the charts and models what they displayed.

Commerce Cogitate – Quiz Competition

Department of Commerce conducted ‘COMMERCE COGITATE’, QUIZ COMPETITION on 16/11/2023 in the Seminar hall. The objective of conducting this event was to encourage students to look beyond their textual knowledge and establish a relationship between theory and application of the learnt concepts on business studies and Accountancy. This event evaluated the existing knowledge, aiding in the team building process with discussion, stimulating interest in learning about new subject matter, improving concentration, identifying knowledge gaps, boosting their confidence and helped to retain information. The Quiz questions was based on Accountancy word search, crossword puzzle, logo identification and Business terminology identification. The students from all the combinations participated in the event with ecstatic spirit and enjoyed the quiz.

Co-Curricular activities by Department of English

Department of English conducted many activities such as Pick and Speak & Essay writing to develop strong communication skills and also to understand the nuances of its usage both in speaking and writing. Department also conducted other extra curricular activities like Drawing, Face painting, and best out of waste on 17-11-2023. These activities were conducted to explore their talent, creativity, areas of interest, increase self-confidence, build leadership skills and even improve grades. Students from different sections participated in all the events very much enthusiastically with full of interest

Sanskrit Divas

Sanskrit Department celebrated the Sanskrit divas on 30/8/2023 to spread awareness on ancient language sanskrit and highlight its historical, cultural and intellectual value. Also Department of Sanskrit organised many departmental activities for PUC students such as Chitralekhanam (Drawing competition), Jihva kheli (Tongue twister), Bhagavadgeetha kantapaata (Bhagavadgeetha reciting) and Smrithi pariksha (Memory test) from 5/11/23 to 10/11/23 to improve Sanskrit vocabulary of the students, encourage the devotion within the students and to know well About the literature and also to know the names of the objects in Sanskrit as well as to improve their Memory skills. Students were very curious about the topic and participated in the competition as per their dream achievements.

SCI-COM 2K23

SCI-COM 2K23 an inter-school competition was organized by SURANA IND. PU COLLEGE on 22-SEP-2023 to encourage the students to showcase their talents and get recognition on a greater scale. SCI-COM this year is themed on “INDIA ON MOON”. Students from different schools participated very much enthusiastically

  5. SCI-COM 2K22 an inter-school competition was organized by SURANA IND. PU COLLEGE on 9-sep-2022. Students from different schools participated very enthusiastically.
  6. Conducted Intra class competition for PUC students by organising various events such as Dancing, Singing, Drawing, Face painting, Nail art, fireless cooking, Rangoli, etc.,

NCC

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a youth development movement with its headquarters in New Delhi .It is the largest youth organization in India. Since its birth, this organization has evolved tremendously and has been working for the welfare of the youth and community as a whole. NCC gives a platform to the cadets in a wide range of activities with a distinct emphasis on Social Services, Discipline and Adventure Training. It is open to schools and college students on voluntarily basis as a try services organization, comprising the Army, the Navy and the Air Force. The cadets are given basic training with the small arms and drill. The NCC cadets have a good platform for their careers in the future, they have reservation in many Government jobs, especially in the State and Central Police and in paramilitary forces.

NCC has been a part of Surana College since 2006 and has been very successful in transforming the cadets into capable youths and getting the best out of them till date.  It has been a privileged for Surana college NCC, 5/3 COY to be a part of 8 Karnataka Battalion, Bangalore B group, Karnataka and Goa directorate. Description of activities conducted and participated:

5/3 COY, Surana college NCC hosts and participates in all kinds of activities and social service events which give a positively impact able message to the society. Various events and activities are conducted on regular basis to motivate the youth of the nation. Surana College NCC celebrates the national festivals like Independence Day, Republic day with all joy and pride. Trekking, cycling expeditions, Marathons, walkathons and various other events are conducted to improve the physical health of the cadets and to keep them active. Activities like swach bharat, Nail riddance program, Vaccination awareness campaigns, and Anti-Drug day walkathons are conducted to deliver a valuable message to the society. The cadets are given an opportunity to discover their talent of writing, poster making, and photography through    competitions conducted by the company.

  • Company is self-financed unit, cadets expenditure for all the 3 years (local/National Camp expenses, uniform, TA, DA, refreshments in all the parade, National festivals) is entirely borne by the college.
  • 33% reservation in enrolment is given to girl cadets
  • Opportunity for enrolment is given to all the students.
  • Apart from training, social service activities are conducted and cadets are made to participate.

  • Guest lecture by retired Armed forces personals are organized to help the cadets to find the career in armed forces and to crack SSB interview
